Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan, a 100 bedded hospital run under the auspices of the
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar, Kolkata-700076 has been rendering dedicated
services for the last 74 years to women & children from the economically backward
sections of society irrespective of caste, creed & religion through it’s Charitable
Hospital, Educational Programmes & various philanthropic Community Activities inspired by
Swami Vivekananda’s Ideal “Service to Man is Service to God”.
It was started in 1950 by Ramakrishna Mission, Belur in the residence of Late Ramaprasad Roy
with only 10 beds. In November 1961, the management of Matri Bhavan was handed over to the
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission the women’s counterpart of the Ramakrishna Order. Since then it
is being entirely managed by the Governing Body of the above mission and the hospital is
known as Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan.
From a humble origin, Matri Bhavan gradually grown up to its present stature of a 100
bedded charitable hospital with 80 beds for Obstetrics ,Gynae, General Medical , General
Surgery & Paediatrics, 20 beds for Neonates.
The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan is mainly functioning with the donated funds,
collected from various organisations/ Individuals.
Recently for running day to day Charitable Hospital Services and Community Activities,
INFOSYS FOUNDATION has been playing a Major Role towards generating funds since
2021-2022 till date.
A) Hospital Services :
Hospital Services rendered are the latest modern treatment facilities in Obstetric Care,
Gynaecology, General Surgery & Laparoscopic Surgery, General Medicine, Paediatrics,
Level-III Neonatology Intensive Care, Adult Intensive Care, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics,
Dermatology, Physiotherapy, Dental supported by a well equipped in-house Laboratory,
Diagnostic Centre & Pharmacy maintained by dedicated, specialized and efficient team of
Doctors, Nurses and Paramedical staff . These services are provided at highly subsidised
rates, further concession/free services are rendered according to the need.
B) Educational Services :
Apart from the Hospital Services Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan’s plays an
important role in carrying out the social service responsibilities through Educational
Services for empowerment of women ( B.Sc Nursing Training, Paramedical Training etc.)
and
looking forward to a society where women live with dignity , exercising their rights and
access to all opportunities for their betterment.
C) Women Empowerment & Skill & Livelihood development training :
For Holistic empowerment and Development of Women, Matri Bhavan is conducting different
types of Skill & Livelihood development training for the marginalized girls to let them lead
a dignified livelihood and thereby gaining economic independence.
D) Community Welfare Services :
To bring health care services to communities and people who are unable to utilize present
services due to inaccessibility or socio-economic reasons, Matri Bhavan is also involved in
several Community Welfare Activities providing health care to urban & rural mothers &
children among the underprivileged families all over West Bengal with most modern facilities
by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses & other supporting staffs.
The Institution celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1975 and the Golden Jubilee in 2000 and
Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated in the year 2025.
Matri Bhavan has crossed many a hurdle since its inception but without deviating from the
core principle of Swami Vivekananda’s Ideal, “Work is Worship”, serving mankind as
manifestation of the Divine, irrespective of caste, creed and nationality.
